FACULTY & STAFF CAMPAIGN FAQ
-
How were the four charities selected for the Faculty/Staff
Community Campaign?
This year, to help highlight several of the nearly 900 Maryland Charity Campaign (MCC) charities, four were selected that represent critical needs within the state and local community and that appeal to a broad range of passions.
-
Is the Maryland Charity Campaign giving site secure?
Yes, protecting personal information is critical, and security is our top priority. In addition to complying with the State of Maryland’s rigorous security requirements, America’s Charities’ Engage platform provides state-of-the-art security to prevent any data from being compromised and requires email verification. Each employee donor is required to create an account and verify his/her work email address.
-
How can I donate?
You may pledge by payroll deduction*, e-check, credit or debit card.
*All payroll deductions are done post-tax deduction, meaning that your taxes are taken out of your paycheck before your donation is deducted.
-
Why should I give to MCC?
Gifts to MCC’s nearly 900 charities show our commitment to the communities we serve. Everyone has experienced a friend or family member who has relied on the care or services of nonprofits. Please contribute to the one that has touched your life.
-
Why should I contribute through MCC?
The MCC is a convenient, cost-efficient method to donate through the ease of payroll deduction, credit card, debit card, or electronic check. State employees may contribute to charitable organizations in a uniform process through one annual campaign.
All participating charities have been pre-screened by the Office of the Secretary of State to ensure that they are trustworthy and meet the requirements to participate.
Donors choose the amount and the charity or charities to receive their gifts thus providing donors the opportunity to contribute to one that touches their hearts.
-
How much should I give? Is there a donation minimum?
There are no minimum donations, and every donation, big and small, is appreciated. We encourage you to give what you are comfortable with. Collectively, our gifts add up and show our combined dedication to these many worthy causes.
-
Is my MCC contribution tax-deductible?
Contributions to the MCC are tax-deductible within the limits of current federal and Maryland State tax law. The MCC has provided no goods or services in exchange for the contribution.
-
How much of my gift goes to the charity?
An estimated 88 percent of your designated contributions go directly to the charity or charities of your choice, unrestricted. MCC administrative costs are a small in comparison to other non-profits.
-
Can I give directly to the university, instead of MCC?
Yes, you can give directly to UMD at our giving site or visit the UMD payroll deduction website for more information.
